ABOUT
For more than three decades, Michael Poehlman has photographed people whose stories deserve to be told. His work spans editorial portraiture, commercial commissions, advertising, and fine art, shaped by years living and working in New York City and São Paulo, Brazil.
Rather than relying on elaborate productions or distractions, Michael's approach is rooted in observation. He believes the strongest portraits reveal character through subtle expression, thoughtful composition, and an atmosphere that allows people to simply be themselves.
His photographs have appeared in magazines, advertising campaigns, book covers, corporate communications, and private collections. Along the way, he has collaborated with global brands, creative agencies, entrepreneurs, artists, and families—always with the same objective: to create photographs that feel genuine long after they are made.
Now based in Traverse City, Michael photographs people, brands, and places throughout Northern Michigan with the same editorial perspective that has defined his career.
If you have a project that calls for authenticity, curiosity, and a thoughtful eye, he'd love to hear from you.
